I was born in the magic island of São Miguel, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean in 1990.
Soon I knew that I would be an artist…
I studied Visual Arts in the high school in Liceu Antero de Quental in Ponta Delgada. On the time of choosing my degree I told my parents if I wouldn't go to study fine arts it wasn't worth it to go to university, making art was my only interest. For some time I had in mind I wanted to enter in the Faculty of Fine Art of the Oporto University. I had a picture of the Faculty in my wall.
So I did, and in 2012 I finished my BFA in the Oporto Faculty of Fine Arts, specializing in painting.
After I wasn't sure which master to follow, I was very interested in drawing and illustration at the time, so I got in the master of printmaking in the same faculty, in that year, but after two or three months I decided I would drop and wait for next year to enter another master in science illustration.
Now I see that life has sometimes a funny way to give you lemons, "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade", but in that time I was said that the master I wanted to take didn't open and it wouldn't open again. I didn't know that my life would be a mix of printmaking and illustration anyways.
Later, in 2019 I studied science illustration on the Museum of Natural history of Lisbon, and then it came covid, so, again, the universe didn't want me to complete this science illustration course... I stopped insisting, I saw that anyways I am much more artistic than scientific.
So I stayed in São Miguel island and for a while I dedicated myself to marine illustration and printmaking inspired by fauna and flora of the Azores and as doing design and illustration on the island was easier as a job, I slowly painted less and less, at least it wasn't my primary focus.
Now, I live from my art in the Azores islands.
Painting came to me more and more lately and maybe because I have found a good place in terms of professional stability I find it easier to get more and more into it without putting the pressure of having to sustain myself through painting.
For more information about my Odyssey, send me a message, I will be happy to answer.
